Because ‘I Do’ Still Matters: A Marriage Retreat to Remember

Marriage can be beautiful, but it takes work. When was the last time you and your spouse truly connected beyond discussing grocery lists? You love each other deeply, but it can get to a point where most of your conversations revolve around logistics, and your connection can feel like it’s running low on battery.

That’s exactly why we’re hosting a marriage retreat happening April 10–13, 2025, at the stunning Brackenhurst Conference & Retreat Centre.

At the heart of it all is a deep belief that investing in our marriages is one of the most important things we can do. When a marriage is healthy, it overflows into everything else. Children thrive when mom and dad are connected, loving one another in a way that reflects Christ’s love for us. That kind of relationship takes time, intention, and space to grow. That's what this retreat is all about.

Our prayer is that couples come away from this weekend with a renewed understanding of God’s love, and that this understanding fuels a deeper, more intimate love for each other. It’s not just about warm fuzzy feelings, it’s about gaining practical tools that bring peace, joy, and real connection back into the everyday moments of married life.

One of the most exciting parts of planning this retreat has been working with the passionate team coming in from The Journey Church in the U.S. Together, we’ve dreamed, prayed, and designed an experience that’s rich in content and full of meaningful “wow” moments.

The retreat itself is built around a 14-week marriage study that we’ve prayerfully distilled into a powerful weekend format. You’ll experience sessions that touch on issues every couple faces, with time for small group discussions and reflection. But this isn’t a conference, it’s a retreat.

There will be plenty of downtime to relax, talk, take in the beauty of Brackenhurst’s peaceful surroundings, and just be together. There are even some optional surprises couples can explore during their free time!

If you’re wondering whether something like this can really make a difference, we’ve heard some of the couples who attended our coastal marriage retreat in 2023 still refer back to what they learned that weekend, and the fruit of those conversations continues to grow in their lives today.

If we had to sum up the retreat in one word, it would be intentional. This isn’t a box to tick, it’s a sacred space to reconnect, renew, and remember why you chose each other in the first place.

We know it’s tempting to run at full speed until the very last minute and arrive totally depleted. But if you can, we encourage you to slow down just a little before April 10. Take some quiet moments to pray for your spouse, ask the Lord to soften your heart, and prepare you to receive what He has for you this weekend. Even a small pause before you pack your bags can make all the difference.

This retreat is for every couple, whether you’ve been married for two years or twenty, whether things are going smoothly or you’re quietly struggling. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to show up. With open hands, open hearts, and a willingness to be reminded of the beauty of marriage as God designed it.

So come. Breathe. Laugh. Learn. Reconnect.
Your marriage is worth it.
