A BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO JAMROCK: BLUESKY CLIMBING COMPETITION
On 30th March, I'll finally be checking off “take part in a climb competition” from the bucket list! I love lists, and so of course I have a bucket list for 2025, climbing being something I am looking forward to doing more.
My climbing skills? INCREDIBLE. Lol, not because I’ve been climbing for a long time, but because every time I climb at BlueSky, Nancy and Fred at the gym have nothing but great things to say about my technique. And coming from the experts, I don’t take that lightly!
My first experience climbing is why I absolutely love it. My heart was racing, my brain thinking of nothing else but the rod at the very top, My body was quivering because of how high I was going and how scary it all felt, but I MADE IT! There’s something about getting to the top of your route and finding ways to stay on course during the whole climb that I just can’t quite explain. Plain magical.
JamRock will be my first time taking my (beginner!) climbing skills to the world while also stepping into the climbing community in Kenya. And people come from all over for this event! I am looking forward to winning (or not!), having loads of fun, meeting a ton of new people to bond over the endorphins produced whilst climbing, and getting a cool T-shirt to show for it. By the way, you don’t have to participate in the competition to come for JamRock. It’s FREE for non-participants, so come cheer, vibe, and enjoy the energy!
Here’s all you need to know about JamRock. I’ll be carrying some baby carrots (I like seeing the routes clearly! Get it?), if carrots aren’t your thing, BlueSky has incredible snack bars that are only 200 Ksh as well as access to various refreshing drinks. You also have an option to carry snacks for your littles.
The event will be on Sunday, 30th March 2025 from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM at the BlueSky Climbing Gym at Diamond Plaza. Early bird tickets are 3,000 Ksh before 21st March and regular tickets are going for 4,000 Ksh after that (I’m on team early-bird ticket!).
Register here. It’s going to be epic. And if I take an unexpected mid-climb break (a.k.a. panic freeze), let’s call it mindfulness, not fear! It's all part of the strategy.
